A Proud Moment: SOGA Becomes an Official Member of AFOG

Greetings everyone,

We are extremely pleased to share this important and historic milestone with you.

On 7 February 2026, during the AFOG Congress held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, jointly organized by AFOG and ESOG, the Somali Obstetrics and Gynecology Association (SOGA) was officially admitted, for the first time, as a member of the African Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology (AFOG).

This milestone was marked by the presence and leadership of Dr. Hafsa Abdirahman Mohamed, the First President of SOGA, who attended the congress and formally signed the membership agreement, officially confirming SOGA’s entry into the AFOG family.

This is a great achievement and a moment of pride for all Somali specialists in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Receiving continental recognition opens new doors for strong collaboration, training opportunities, research, and professional exchange across African countries.

We believe this step will greatly benefit Somali OBGYN professionals and contribute to the improvement of maternal and women’s health services in Somalia and across Africa.

On behalf of SOGA, we are delighted and honored to be recognized and welcomed as part of the AFOG family. We look forward to working together toward a better future for women’s health in Africa.

Thank you.

Dr. Bashir Abdullahi Hussein Abdi
Secretary General
Somali Obstetrics and Gynecology Association (SOGA)
